This phrase, in relation to art, refers to the visual appeal of an object. The sense of action and movement through a composition exhibiting its fluidity and vitality. Geoff named this coffee table Grace because she exhibited these characteristics. The beautiful book matched walnut slabs became the first in his “Flower Series”. The legs represent the roots underneath the table, they emerge through the table top which represents the ground and the extension of the roots become the flower exposed at the top. The legs and flower are united in a complicated joinery technique. Geoff calls it a “four way flower miter”. This piece became a fun and beautiful dining table (or coffee table – personal preference) and is accompanied by four Om stools from the Owl Furniture line. The Oms are meditation stools which are 12” off the ground, the perfect height for this table. They are one of the many options available from Owl Furniture, which is an ergonomic line of task stools and desks that Geoff developed in 2009. He has since sold that part of the business but it is still made in Maine with his specifications. Geoff continues to design and make “one of a kind” furniture pieces in his studio in a fishing village off the coast of Maine.
Geoff won a Best in Show award for Furniture Innovation with this piece at the Fine Furnishings Show at the Waterfire Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
